Edunet Foundation receives Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC, UN
New Delhi - Edunet Foundation, an Indian NGO, has been granted Special Consultative Status by the United Nations, Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). This was based on the recommendation of the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations that evaluated 637 applications from NGOs around the world and selected 66, including the Edunet Foundation, based on their merits.
Special Consultative Status allows Edunet Foundation representatives to visit and actively participate in meetings at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Geneva, and Vienna. Edunet Foundation representatives now have a voice at the UN and may make written statements, oral presentations and hold consultations with ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies. Edunet Foundation may also utilize UN facilities for conferences/smaller meetings and side events.
One of the founding members of the Edunet Foundation, Nagesh Singh, said, “We believe that this opportunity allows us to have a greater voice in the development ecosystem. It will also help us realize our goal of more inclusive access to experiential, career-enabling education of all sections of the society, especially those that do not have access and are disenfranchised.”
